DON B. CHAE is a candidate(nominated by the Democratic Party) in the General Election of November 4, 2008, for the position of Justice, 5th Court of Appeals, Texas.

DON B. CHAE is an attorney licensed to practice law in the state of Texas, having been admitted to practice in 1980. He has been a judge of the City of Dallas Municipal Court for over 12 years. Prior to the legal career, he was a university professor, having earned a Ph.D. degree from the Univ. of Texas at Austin. With his educational background, legal and judicial experience, knowledge of the law, and judicial temperament, we believe he is fully and abundantly well qualified to assume the appellate bench on behalf of the people.

The 5th Court of Appeals' principal duties are reviewing the cases appealed from the trial courts. Sitting in Dallas, it is one of the 14 courts of appeals in Texas. The Court's jurisdiction extends to all cases, both civil and criminal, appealed from the district and county courts located in the six counties of Dallas, Collin, Grayson, Hunt, Kaufman, and Rockwall. The 5th Court of Appeals has 13 justices, and about one third of the justices' seats are open for election every two years.

In 2008, three seats of the Court are open for election. All 13 seats of the Court have been filled with Republican justices. In 2008, we need to elect three Democratic justices to bring needed changes and to reflect the bona fide will of the people.
Although all justices apply the same law to the facts of the case, most Democratic justices have different sets of judicial philosophy. If you reside in one of the above six counties, you will find his name, DON B. CHAE, as a Democratic candidate on your ballot.
